North West Premier of RATB Documentary 25 July 2010

Rock Around the Blockade (RATB) invites you to join us in our 26 July Movement celebrations on 24 and 25 July 2010 in Manchester! This revolutionary movement (Movimiento 26 de Julio/M-26-7) was led by Fidel Castro which overthrew the US-backed regime of Fulgencio Batista in Cuba (1959). Its name commemorates an attack on the Santiago de Cuba army barracks (Moncada Barracks) on 26 July 1953, marking it as the start of the Cuban Revolution.

And this is what we have in store for you:
  • Saturday 24 July
Piccadilly Gardens from 12pm, celebrating the M-26-7 anniversary with inspiring speeches, revolutionary music, Cuban dance and more! Please come along and celebrate with us out on the streets!!
  • Sunday 25 July
Latin American Dayschool at the Cross Street Chapel, Cross Street, Manchester from 1.30pm. We will be showing for the first time in the North West, the new documentary film produced by RATB, Cuba: Defending Socialism, Resisting Imperialism (see trailer below), and have as a speaker Sam McGill, RATB activist and a Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! (FRFI) reporter, who has recently returned from Cuba and Venezuela. She will give an eyewitness report about Cuban-Venezuelan collaborations and the current atmosphere in Venezuela regarding the upcoming elections in September 2010.

The premier of our own documentary made during our 2009 RATB solidarity bridgade to Cuba, includes interviews with Cubans from all walks of life and shows inspirational footage of Cubans celebrating 50 years of the Revolution on Mayday 2009.

Filmshowing and speaker will be followed by questions and discussion. As always, all groups and individuals welcome. This is a free event but donations towards the cost of the room are always highly appreciated.
